Having Shoulder Pain is One of the Most PAINFUL Conditions We Treat & It Will Not Go Away on Its Own…

Shoulder pain can be a relentless and nagging burden that refuses to go away. It lingers, affecting every aspect of your life, from the simplest daily tasks to the activities you once enjoyed. The frustration sets in when you try to lift your arm overhead and are met with a sharp twinge of pain, leaving you feeling defeated and wondering if it will ever get better.

Sleeping becomes a struggle as you toss and turn, desperately seeking a position that won’t aggravate the pain. Even the simplest chores like reaching for objects on high shelves or combing your hair become a painful ordeal. It’s like your shoulder is constantly reminding you of its presence, and the weight of it bears down on your emotional well-being.

You may feel isolated, as though no one understands the toll that shoulder pain has taken on your life. The activities you once enjoyed now seem like distant memories, replaced by the constant worry of making the pain worse. It’s as if the pain has taken control, leaving you feeling helpless and anxious about what the future holds.

But there is hope, and you don’t have to face this battle alone.

If Your Shoulder Pain Goes Untreated or Misdiagnosed, Things Will Likely Only Get Worse…

Shoulder pain can be a real challenge, impacting your ability to move freely and perform everyday tasks. It’s not just a physical burden; it can also take a toll on your emotional well-being. The constant discomfort can leave you feeling frustrated and defeated, making you reluctant to engage in activities you once enjoyed.

If you’re experiencing shoulder pain, you’re not alone. At Back in Motion Physical Therapy & Performance, we encounter cases of shoulder pain in individuals of all ages and backgrounds in Fort MyersCape Coral, and Estero.

Ignoring shoulder pain and hoping it will go away on its own rarely leads to lasting relief. The “rest and wait” approach may provide temporary respite, but the pain often returns, leaving you wondering when you’ll find a real solution.

Taking painkillers and hoping for improvement is not the answer either. It’s essential to address the underlying cause of your shoulder pain, which may be due to muscle imbalances, poor posture, or other biomechanical issues.

Immediately Dr. Gray and his team were able to pinpoint the problem in my shoulder and were able to help me recover accordingly. They also found out the root of my shoulder pain was not because of a weakened Rotor-cuff and Scap, but also a lack of stability in my hip. Within only a few weeks I was able to feel big differences in the right direction because of Dr.Gray!! If you’re an athlete with any discomfort or pain anywhere I definitely recommend Dr.Gray and his team.”

How We Treat Shoulder Pain

Watch this quick video and learn why most shoulder pain occurs and how we treat it at Back in Motion Physical Therapy & Performance.

The Shoulder Injury Conditions We Treat

Rotator Cuff Injuries

Frozen Shoulder

Impingement

Bursitis

Shoulder soreness, arm weakness, difficulties reaching behind the back, and sleeping problems are all symptoms of rotator cuff injury.

You might be wondering, “Will a rotator cuff injury heal on its own?” Physical therapy can often help to relieve discomfort from rotator cuff injuries and improve strength without the need for surgery. However, if surgery is required, physical therapy will be an important part of the recovery process to relieve rotator cuff pain.

Tendinitis is inflammation of the shoulder rotator cuff tendons or bicep tendons. When tendons become inflamed over time, tendinitis will cause swelling and severe impingement when you raise your arm.

Poor posture contributes to tendinitis because it disrupts the equilibrium of your shoulders and causes tension and weakness.

Impingement occurs when you elevate your arm to a 90-degree angle or higher and experience pain.

There are two main types of infringement: Primary & Secondary.

Primary impingement occurs when the acromion develops an osteophyte or hook and “impinges” on the supraspinatus tendon when raising the arm overhead.

Secondary shoulder impingement usually stems from a biomechanical lesion. It can either be a coracromial impingement which affects the supraspinatus tendon due to joint mobility deficiency or a thing called scapular dyskinesia (when your shoulder blade moves abnormally).

The last type of secondary shoulder impingement is called internal shoulder impingement. This is common in overhead athletes such as pitchers, who we treat at our Fort Myers Sports Injury Clinic. This is when the rotator cuff gets impinged upon the glenoid.

Are you experiencing a painful loss of motion and a tightness of the shoulder joint? You might have a condition known as “frozen shoulder”, causing restriction in movement. This syndrome can occur if your arm has been in a cast or sling for a long time or if you have been bedridden.

The two most frequent kinds of arthritis that affect the shoulder are osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Both result in shoulder muscle weakness, making it difficult to execute daily tasks.

Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease that causes the immune system to target the membranes that surround the shoulder joint. Discomfort and inflammation are symptoms of this illness.

Dr Sharon was diligent in dealing with my back and neck issues. She increased my mobility tremendously and the home exercises she gave me did wonders for my golf game and general health. I want to continue a program to increase my mobility even more and enjoy the benefits of painless activities. Her program has done wonders

In September 2022 I had a complex shoulder surgery and began a regimen of physical therapy with Dr. Sharon Sims of Back in Motion here in Verandah. I can only say that today I’m in better physical shape then I’ve been in years. By following her treatment plan I’m able to play “pain free golf” a couple of time a week and participate in fitness activities -- pickleball is next on my list. It wasn’t easy, requiring a lot of work, but it paid off. Thanks Dr. Sharon.I have been seeing Dr. Sharon for a few weeks. After the 2nd visit the severe lower back pain was alleviated. So much so that I have been able to resume golf with much better swing ( although that's not saying much LoL).If you need physical therapy this is the place and she is the right doctor.Be prepared to work hard. If you follow directions you'll be satisfied.

Dr. Sharon is a miracle worker! I ended up with nerve damage after a partial knee replacement and was very slow to recover. Dr. Sharon kept me motivated even though I was not seeing immediate improvement. I kept at it and she has helped me build back my quad strength and range of motion. She noticed I also had some back issues and the orthopedic inserts she recommended for me are really alleviating my back pain and helping me with my gait. I also tried dry needling and that also helped relieve pain and helped with my range of motion. My surgeon said it could take up to a year for my nerves to regenerate and I plan on continuing to see Dr. Sharon until I reach my goal of walking without a limp and being able to resume an active lifestyle. Dr. Sharon was able to adapt exercises so that I could feel that I was improving and her vast experience in the field was obvious. I strongly recommend Dr. Sharon for both flexibility and pain treatment as well as post operative care. She is the best!

I attended an arthritis discovery seminar by Dr. Sharon Sims and found it very informative. I booked my first appointment for an evaluation and the office staff made the process extremely easy and more importantly, efficient! Dr. Sharon's diagnosis was thorough and a treatment plan immediately put into place and future appointments booked. I feel much better after just 4 appointments. Thank you, Dr. Sharon and Back in Motion! Highly recommend!

I suffered a stroke in early October 2021. The stroke mostly resulted in numbness and loss of sensory perception on my left side. However, Dr. Sharon pointed out that it also involved some loss of some motor skills along with a weakened sense of balance.Dr. Sharon has been working with me not only in strengthening my left side but also increasing my sense of balance which has definitely improved over the last several weeks. My golf game has also improved as a result of the therapy.Dr. Sharon’s diagnostic and evaluation skills are exceptional along with her ability to arrive at a treatment plan that has reduced some of the damage from my stroke. I highly recommend Dr. Sharon and am thankful for the physical therapy which she has provided. Thanks,Gary C. Reich D.D.S. ( retired)
