Is Your Life Living Hell Because of a Stiff or Nagging Neck?

Dealing with neck pain can be both physically and emotionally challenging.

Not only does it limit your ability to move freely and comfortably, but it can also drain your energy and affect your mood.

It's easy to dismiss neck pain as a minor inconvenience, attributing it to a bad sleeping position or a strain from everyday activities. However, despite your efforts to alleviate it, the pain persists and shows no signs of fading away.

If this situation sounds all too familiar to you and your neck pain, know that you are not alone.

We frequently encounter cases of neck pain in our physical therapy clinics in Fort Myers, Cape Coral, and Estero.

Neck pain not only inflicts physical distress but also takes a profound emotional toll on those who suffer from it. It's a hidden burden that can leave you frustrated, isolated, and defeated. The constant discomfort can chip away at your emotional well-being, triggering feelings of anxiety, depression, and a sense of helplessness.

At Back in Motion Physical Therapy & Performance, we understand the emotional component of your neck pain journey, and we are here to provide the support, guidance, and resources you need to address and overcome the psychological challenges that accompany neck pain.

Our team of dedicated professionals will work with you to create a personalized treatment plan that not only addresses the physical aspects of your pain but also addresses your emotional well-being. Let's embark on this healing journey together!

If Your Neck Pain is Untreated, Things Will Likely Only Get Worse…

Neck pain is an all-too-common affliction that affects countless individuals and has the potential to become chronic if left unaddressed.

But don't worry; our goal is not to scare you but to educate and empower you because neck pain doesn't have to be a never-ending struggle.

Over the years, we've heard too many stories of people opting for the “rest and see how it goes” approach with their neck pain. While it may provide temporary relief, it often leads to frustration when the pain returns.

Another common scenario is when patients are advised to take painkillers and rest to see if the pain improves.

However, this approach rarely yields long-lasting results, and after weeks of rest, the pain persists, leading them back to the doctor's office. Unfortunately, this cycle can result in stronger medications, more rest, or unnecessary injections or surgeries.

If this sounds familiar to you and your neck pain, you're not alone.

There are various reasons why neck pain may linger longer than it should, and it can be confusing to receive different explanations from various sources.

While many people offer advice, not all of it is reliable or credible.

The truth might be that years of poor posture have weakened the muscles in your neck, and those awkward sleeping positions or everyday activities were merely consequences of this underlying issue.

But fret not; our team of experts is here to help you unravel the root cause of your neck pain and provide a comprehensive and personalized treatment plan to address it effectively.

With our guidance and expertise, you can find relief from neck pain and rediscover the joy of a pain-free and active lifestyle. Let us be your partner in this journey towards better neck health and improved well-being. Together, we will work towards a stronger and more resilient you!

The Neck Pain Conditions We Treat

Degenerative Joint Conditions

Forward Head Posture

Compressed Nerves

Whiplash is one of the most common injuries that result in neck pain and is typically sustained by an automobile accident or high-impact sports collision. Whiplash is a “sprain/strain” injury, causing the head to whip rapidly back and forth, thus affecting the soft tissues in the back of the neck.

Like any other joint in your body, the neck joints can deteriorate with age or after an injury and cause pain. Conditions such as osteoarthritis can reduce the cartilage between the vertebrae in the neck. This also results in neck pain.

Forward head posture is a common condition where your head is positioned with your ears in front of your body’s vertical midline. Poort postural habits and looking down at your smartphone can lead to this condition.

A neutral head posture is ideal where your vertebrae are in their natural position, and your ears line up with your shoulders and midline. This natural posture allows for a normal range of motion and alignment of the joints. The neutral posture also allows the muscles to function correctly.

Forward head posture often leads to neck pain, increased tension in the upper back and neck muscles, and difficulty moving the neck (stiffness). A forward head posture can make using your upper body difficult and/or painful, affecting your balance and gait.

A disc is a soft pad between each of the spine’s vertebrae. The disc acts as a spacer and shock absorber and facilitates movement in the spine.

A herniated disc results from a weakness or breach in the disc’s outer casing leading to the inner disc material extending outward. The bulging section of a herniated disc may cause no symptoms as long it makes no contact with the surrounding spinal structure.

If the disc pushes against nerve roots or causes inflammation of the nerve roots, it can interfere with the normal passage of nerve signals. This disruption causes you to experience neck pain, and nerve symptoms in your arms, hands, and fingers

A herniated disc doesn’t always cause symptoms, but when it does, it can prevent you from playing your favorite sport, driving comfortably, performing your essential job tasks, or even getting a decent night’s sleep.

Certain diseases and ailments can result in neck pain, such as rheumatoid arthritis, cancer, and meningitis.

There are many more reasons why neck pain may occur, so slow down before you start searching on Google! That is a sure way only to stress yourself out.

Neck muscle strains are common injuries that occur due to overstretching or tearing of the neck muscles. They often result from sudden or excessive movements, poor posture, or repetitive stress on the neck. Symptoms of neck muscle strains may include pain, stiffness, limited range of motion, and muscle tenderness in the affected area.

Spinal stenosis refers to the narrowing of the canals that are formed by the vertebrae. This narrowing can impinge on the nerves exiting your spine and/or the spinal cord itself. Symptoms often include radiating pain from the neck and upper back down into the arms and to the hand and fingers.

As stenosis progresses, it leads to weakness and loss of function, making it challenging to tolerate arm use and prolonged sitting positions. Fortunately, physical therapy treatments, such as manual therapy, including spinal mobilizations, can help provide pain relief.

If you have a herniated disc in your neck, the nerves that branch out from your spinal cord may be pinched where the nerves exit the spine. In some cases, nerve pain can radiate from the neck to the hands and fingers, a condition known as “radiculopathy.”
