How The Gray Method™ Works

Step 1: Your History & Pain Questions

The first part consists of learning more about you and your situation & asking you some questions, like:

  • How long have you been suffering?

  • How did the injury occur?

  • What makes it better or worse?

  • Is your pain constant?

  • What are your goals?

Once the provider has asked the appropriate questions they can usually detect just by talking to you what your condition is. Crazy, right?

This is because pain, stiffness, or injuries make sense. If your pain is constant or unrelenting you usually have an inflammatory condition (acute injury), a psychosomatic condition, or a red flag.

Our provider’s goal is to rule these in or out, by talking with you.

On the other hand, if you have pain with particular motions, positions, or time of day, we can usually rule specific conditions in or out as well.

Step 2: The Examination

Once we’ve asked you certain questions and have a better understanding of your situation, we’ll take you through a physical examination.

The premise and goal of this examination process is two-fold;

One – to discern what your injury or where your pain is stemming from. For instance, is it a muscle, tendon, disc, or nerve?

Secondly – to detect the root cause of your injury.

What I have found after countless hours of studying and learning, is that there are 3 key areas of the body that cause the majority of pain or dysfunction & these are usually what is causing yours. Your pain site is just the symptom; there is usually a cause. Those three key areas are:

  • The Feet
  • The Hips
  • The Thoracic Spine (your mid-back)

When any of these three areas are not working optimally, you get neck pain, a rotator cuff or knee injury and pathology, or lower back pain. Think about that for a minute…

The majority of conditions that patients come in for are lower back, neck, and knee. The areas adjacent to them (hips, feet, and thoracic spine) usually become dysfunctional, causing you to compensate and irritate the injured or problematic area.

Step 3: Diagnosis & Prognosis

Once our team has listened to your story and done a proper examination, we’ll then outline the results and if we think we can help you.

During this final stage, we’ll also look at any imaging that you may have had done as well.
