Is Sacroiliac Joint Pain Slowing You Down?

Managing a sacroiliac joint dysfunction or injury poses physical and emotional challenges.

Often, unresolved pain, perplexing to many, originates from this joint.

The sacroiliac joint, formed by the ilium and sacrum, has limited movement, yet discomfort can arise when it moves excessively. This is usually only discerned with a physical examination by a physical therapist and can’t be detected in a MRI or even a x-ray!

Complicating matters, many medical providers lack comprehensive treatment approaches beyond painkillers or injections for addressing sacroiliac joint issues.

If this situation sounds all too familiar to you and your current situation, know that you are not alone.

At Back in Motion Physical Therapy & Performance, we encounter many cases of sacroiliac joint disorders that go undiagnosed or treated correctly for one reason or another at  Fort Myers physical therapy clinic.

If Your Sacroiliac Joint Pain is Untreated or Misdiagnosed Things Will Likely Only Get Worse…

Facing sacroiliac joint dysfunction is a common challenge experienced by individuals across various lifestyles, and if left unattended, it can develop into a chronic issue hindering daily functioning. However, our aim is not to dishearten but to inform and empower you, as sacroiliac joint dysfunction need not be a persistent obstacle.

Over the years, we’ve encountered numerous instances where individuals adopt a “rest and wait” approach to manage sacroiliac joint issues, seeking temporary relief but often experiencing frustration when pain and limitations persist. Another prevalent scenario involves relying on painkillers and rest, only to find that this strategy rarely yields lasting solutions. After weeks of rest, the discomfort endures, prompting a return to square one and potentially leading to stronger medications or unnecessary medical procedures.

If this resonates with your experience of sacroiliac joint dysfunction, understand that you are not alone. The reasons behind prolonged issues can vary, and it can be perplexing to receive conflicting explanations. While advice abounds, not all of it is reliable or credible.

The key may lie in addressing underlying issues such as muscle imbalances, biomechanical problems, or inadequate recovery practices. Our team of experts is here to help uncover the root cause of your sacroiliac joint dysfunction, offering a comprehensive and personalized treatment plan for effective resolution.

With our guidance, you can achieve relief from sacroiliac joint dysfunction, regain your daily comfort, and rediscover the joy of a pain-free and active lifestyle. Most Common Sacroiliac Joint Dysfunctions

An upslip is when the ilium is elevated on the sacrum. Typically one leg will present and be longer.

A down slip rarely occurs but does still happen. This occurs when the adductors pull the ilium downward or from a traumatic fall.

A posterior rotation of the ilium is probably one of the most common ailments that we see regarding SIJ dysfunction. This is when one of the ilium is rotated backwards.

Anterior torsion of the ilium is another very common position that affects many sacroiliac joint patients. This is when the ilium is rotated anteriorly.

A inflare is when the ilium is rotated internally. This happens often with women.

An out flare is when the ilium rotates outward or externally. This is common in men.

Dr Sharon was diligent in dealing with my back and neck issues. She increased my mobility tremendously and the home exercises she gave me did wonders for my golf game and general health. I want to continue a program to increase my mobility even more and enjoy the benefits of painless activities. Her program has done wonders

In September 2022 I had a complex shoulder surgery and began a regimen of physical therapy with Dr. Sharon Sims of Back in Motion here in Verandah. I can only say that today I’m in better physical shape then I’ve been in years. By following her treatment plan I’m able to play “pain free golf” a couple of time a week and participate in fitness activities -- pickleball is next on my list. It wasn’t easy, requiring a lot of work, but it paid off. Thanks Dr. Sharon.I have been seeing Dr. Sharon for a few weeks. After the 2nd visit the severe lower back pain was alleviated. So much so that I have been able to resume golf with much better swing ( although that's not saying much LoL).If you need physical therapy this is the place and she is the right doctor.Be prepared to work hard. If you follow directions you'll be satisfied.

Dr. Sharon is a miracle worker! I ended up with nerve damage after a partial knee replacement and was very slow to recover. Dr. Sharon kept me motivated even though I was not seeing immediate improvement. I kept at it and she has helped me build back my quad strength and range of motion. She noticed I also had some back issues and the orthopedic inserts she recommended for me are really alleviating my back pain and helping me with my gait. I also tried dry needling and that also helped relieve pain and helped with my range of motion. My surgeon said it could take up to a year for my nerves to regenerate and I plan on continuing to see Dr. Sharon until I reach my goal of walking without a limp and being able to resume an active lifestyle. Dr. Sharon was able to adapt exercises so that I could feel that I was improving and her vast experience in the field was obvious. I strongly recommend Dr. Sharon for both flexibility and pain treatment as well as post operative care. She is the best!

I attended an arthritis discovery seminar by Dr. Sharon Sims and found it very informative. I booked my first appointment for an evaluation and the office staff made the process extremely easy and more importantly, efficient! Dr. Sharon's diagnosis was thorough and a treatment plan immediately put into place and future appointments booked. I feel much better after just 4 appointments. Thank you, Dr. Sharon and Back in Motion! Highly recommend!

I suffered a stroke in early October 2021. The stroke mostly resulted in numbness and loss of sensory perception on my left side. However, Dr. Sharon pointed out that it also involved some loss of some motor skills along with a weakened sense of balance.Dr. Sharon has been working with me not only in strengthening my left side but also increasing my sense of balance which has definitely improved over the last several weeks. My golf game has also improved as a result of the therapy.Dr. Sharon’s diagnostic and evaluation skills are exceptional along with her ability to arrive at a treatment plan that has reduced some of the damage from my stroke. I highly recommend Dr. Sharon and am thankful for the physical therapy which she has provided. Thanks,Gary C. Reich D.D.S. ( retired)
