Is a Neurological Condition Limiting Your Independence?

Dealing with a sports injury can be both physically and emotionally challenging.

Not only does it limit your ability to perform at your best, but it can also be frustrating and disheartening. It’s easy to dismiss the injury as a minor setback, attributing it to a simple strain or overuse. However, despite your efforts to recover, the pain and limitations persist, impacting your performance and dampening your spirits.

If this situation sounds all too familiar to you and your sports injury, know that you are not alone. At Back in Motion Physical Therapy & Performance, we encounter cases of sports injuries in athletes of all levels in Fort MyersCape Coral, and Estero.

Sports injuries not only inflict physical distress but also take a profound emotional toll on athletes. They can leave you feeling frustrated, isolated, and defeated. The constant pain and inability to participate in your favorite activities can chip away at your emotional well-being, triggering feelings of anxiety, depression, and a sense of helplessness.

Neurological Conditions We Treat

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive neurological disease. It typically begins in the hands, legs, and extremities before spreading to the central nervous system. Furthermore, if you have ALS, you may have noticed that losing your balance makes it difficult to walk.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a neurological disorder affecting the brain and spinal cord. Symptoms include muscle weakness, fatigue, and impaired coordination. This disorder has the potential to be fatal if it worsens. If you have this illness, physical therapy will help you move as freely as possible while also reducing your symptoms.

A stroke can occur when the blood supply to your brain is cut off. This is because the brain tissue lacks oxygen and nutrients. Stroke is the leading cause of adult impairment because brain cells can die in minutes.

Physical therapy can help with stroke recovery. Re-education can assist stroke patients in regaining their balance, gait, and use of assistive devices. Our Fort Myers, Cape Coral & Estero, FL physical therapists will assist you in regaining functional skills so that you can resume your normal life as soon as possible.

Parkinson’s disease is a degenerative disease that affects the brain’s nerve cells. Severe tremors, slurred speech, and involuntary facial expressions are common symptoms. Physical therapy, on the other hand, has been shown to help both slow the progression and relieve symptoms of Parkinson’s disease.

Dr Sharon was diligent in dealing with my back and neck issues. She increased my mobility tremendously and the home exercises she gave me did wonders for my golf game and general health. I want to continue a program to increase my mobility even more and enjoy the benefits of painless activities. Her program has done wonders

In September 2022 I had a complex shoulder surgery and began a regimen of physical therapy with Dr. Sharon Sims of Back in Motion here in Verandah. I can only say that today I’m in better physical shape then I’ve been in years. By following her treatment plan I’m able to play “pain free golf” a couple of time a week and participate in fitness activities -- pickleball is next on my list. It wasn’t easy, requiring a lot of work, but it paid off. Thanks Dr. Sharon.I have been seeing Dr. Sharon for a few weeks. After the 2nd visit the severe lower back pain was alleviated. So much so that I have been able to resume golf with much better swing ( although that's not saying much LoL).If you need physical therapy this is the place and she is the right doctor.Be prepared to work hard. If you follow directions you'll be satisfied.

Dr. Sharon is a miracle worker! I ended up with nerve damage after a partial knee replacement and was very slow to recover. Dr. Sharon kept me motivated even though I was not seeing immediate improvement. I kept at it and she has helped me build back my quad strength and range of motion. She noticed I also had some back issues and the orthopedic inserts she recommended for me are really alleviating my back pain and helping me with my gait. I also tried dry needling and that also helped relieve pain and helped with my range of motion. My surgeon said it could take up to a year for my nerves to regenerate and I plan on continuing to see Dr. Sharon until I reach my goal of walking without a limp and being able to resume an active lifestyle. Dr. Sharon was able to adapt exercises so that I could feel that I was improving and her vast experience in the field was obvious. I strongly recommend Dr. Sharon for both flexibility and pain treatment as well as post operative care. She is the best!

Sharon is an excellent physical therapist, highly competent, professional and personable! She has been helping me with both my shoulder and my back. I am now comfortably walking, doing the elliptical and biking, and will be golfing and playing pickleball soon. Thanks so much!

I attended an arthritis discovery seminar by Dr. Sharon Sims and found it very informative. I booked my first appointment for an evaluation and the office staff made the process extremely easy and more importantly, efficient! Dr. Sharon's diagnosis was thorough and a treatment plan immediately put into place and future appointments booked. I feel much better after just 4 appointments. Thank you, Dr. Sharon and Back in Motion! Highly recommend!

I suffered a stroke in early October 2021. The stroke mostly resulted in numbness and loss of sensory perception on my left side. However, Dr. Sharon pointed out that it also involved some loss of some motor skills along with a weakened sense of balance.Dr. Sharon has been working with me not only in strengthening my left side but also increasing my sense of balance which has definitely improved over the last several weeks. My golf game has also improved as a result of the therapy.Dr. Sharon’s diagnostic and evaluation skills are exceptional along with her ability to arrive at a treatment plan that has reduced some of the damage from my stroke. I highly recommend Dr. Sharon and am thankful for the physical therapy which she has provided. Thanks,Gary C. Reich D.D.S. ( retired)
