Why Your Mid-Back Pain Won’t Go Away — and What to Do About It?
A Personal Note from Dr.Scott:
Is Your Mid-Back Trying to Tell You Something?
As summer winds down, many of us start easing back into routines — longer hours at the desk, more time in the car, and a little less time moving freely.
But here’s the question I want to ask you this month:
Is your mid-back trying to tell you something?
Because if you’re feeling stiff between the shoulder blades, tight in your ribs, or constantly needing to stretch just to stay comfortable — that’s your body raising a hand and saying, “Hey, I need a little help here.”
When you ignore that discomfort or chalk it up to “just sitting too much,” it only gets worse. Before long, that nagging ache starts to affect your breathing, your energy, even your ability to sleep or concentrate.
Here’s the good news: it doesn’t have to stay that way.
Whether you’re struggling with thoracic spine tension, rib tightness, or posture fatigue, there’s a better way to find relief — one that doesn’t rely on endless stretching or posture braces.
At Back In Motion, we believe your body should support you — not hold you back. And when your spine moves the way it’s meant to, everything feels a little easier.
So this month, while you’re getting back into the swing of things, take a moment to ask yourself:
What has my body been trying to tell me — and what’s one step I can take to finally listen?
To your health and freedom,
Dr. Scott Gray

Why Your Mid-Back Pain Won’t Go Away — and What to Do About It
We’ve all been there — the nagging tightness between your shoulder blades that creeps in around 3 PM.
The dull ache that kicks in during long drives.
That subtle but stubborn pressure that no stretch seems to touch.
Mid-back pain is incredibly common, especially among active adults, desk workers, athletes, and individuals over 50. And yet, despite massage, stretching, or “sitting up straighter,” it seems to keep coming back.

Thoracic Mobility Test – Wall Angels
Want to know if your mid-back is really mobile — or just tight from sitting?
Try this simple Wall Angel Test to assess thoracic and shoulder function.
Here’s how:
- Stand with your back flat against a wall.
- Your feet should be 6–8 inches away from the base.
- Keep your lower back, upper back, and head against the wall.
- Raise your arms like a goalpost (elbows bent to 90°).
- Slowly raise and lower your arms along the wall, like snow angels.
What to watch for:
- Do your arms lose contact with the wall?
- Does your lower back arch off the wall?
- Do you feel tightness or pinching?
If yes — you likely have thoracic spine or shoulder mobility restrictions that need some love.
Wall angels are both an assessment and a rehab tool. Doing just 1–2 sets daily can improve posture, upper back motion, and breathing.
