Could you have a pinched nerve?
Check everything that sounds like you.
A nerve can be irritated anywhere along its path, from your spine to your fingers or toes. Finding the right spot is the key, and that's exactly what we do.
Find Out What's Causing Yours
Pills and injections quiet the nerve. They don't take the pressure off it.
A "pinched nerve" happens when a nerve gets compressed or irritated somewhere along its path: by a disc, a narrowed opening in the spine, tight tissue, or a tunnel in your wrist, elbow, or ankle. Many people are told to rest, take medication, or wear a brace, but if nothing changes the pressure on the nerve, symptoms come back. At Back In Motion, we help patients across Fort Myers and Cape Coral find the source. Common causes:
- A bulging or herniated disc pressing on a nerve root
- Narrowing of the spaces in the spine (stenosis)
- Tight muscles or tissue around the nerve's path
- Posture and repetitive positions, like desk work or gripping
- Weakness or stiffness that changes how you move

What does a pinched nerve feel like?
Common signs are pain that shoots or radiates, numbness, tingling or "pins and needles," burning, and sometimes weakness. Where you feel it depends on which nerve is involved, like down the arm, into the hand (carpal tunnel), down the leg (sciatica), or into the foot.
Can physical therapy help a pinched nerve?
Yes, for many people. Physical therapy can reduce pressure and irritation on the nerve through hands-on treatment, nerve mobility exercises, strengthening, and changes to posture and daily habits. If anything suggests you need a doctor or imaging, we'll tell you and help coordinate.
How long does a pinched nerve take to heal?
It varies with the cause and how long symptoms have been going on. Many people notice improvement within a few weeks of the right treatment. Numbness can take longer to fully resolve than pain.
When should I see a doctor right away?
Get emergency care for loss of bladder or bowel control, numbness in the groin or inner thighs, or weakness that's getting worse quickly. See your doctor soon for constant numbness, muscle wasting, or symptoms in both arms or both legs.
