What are Foot Orthotics?

A foot orthotic is a non-surgical medical device made to control the way a foot functions.  A properly manufactured foot orthotic inserted into your shoes will correct abnormalities in your foot alignment, provide support, and improve the way your foot should function thus reducing pain, and relieving stress on joints, bones, and tendons.

Foot pain is only ONE SYMPTOM of abnormal foot function! Keep in mind that foot orthotics not only alleviate foot pain but are effective in treating hip pain, lower back pain, and knee pain that are a result of mal-alignments in the lower body. At the end of the day, you have only one thing in mind – making your feet and overall body feel better.

The Foot Orthtoics We Use

Option One: Stride Custom Orthotics

Stride Custom Orthotics is a world renowned independent foot orthotic lab in Connecticut. It helps Back In Motion Sport & Spine Physical Therapy’s patients improve their feet and function.

What makes the collaboration between BIM & Stride Orthotics unique is that a Doctor Of Physical Therapy evaluates the patient’s feet and imbalances and sends a plastic imprint of the patient’s feet to the lab.

We even send photos, the type of shoes you want to wear, your activity level, etc. Stride will then create a custom foot orthotic based on this information. It really is a comprehensive and thorough process. Unlike…. other places that claim they make  “custom orthotics”.

What makes Stride custom orthotics great is their lab’s attention to detail and certified pedorthosist that are creating each custom foot orthotic rather than a store clerk with no training or education on feet.

Option 2: Quadrastep Foot Orthotics

The QUADRASTEP® SYSTEM® is our second form of foot orthotics that we offer to our patients right in the clinic. It is based on a clinical assessment method which identifies what “foot type” you are. Each foot type influences not only the way you walk but the conditions and symptoms that may affect you throughout your life. In total, there are 6 different types of feet.

QUADRASTEP® foot orthotics are a plastic compound for strength with a “soft” feel which gives incredible support while maintaining comfort. They can be customized by adding different lifts, arch supports, and posting based on the patient’s foot type right in the clinic.

Why Our Foot Orthotics Are Different

Every pair of orthotics dispensed from Back In Motion really is a thorough process. We want to help you get the right orthotic for you. It consists of a 5 step process:

1) A Detailed History

Everyone has a different story or medical history. Whether you’re an athlete looking for an orthotic to help keep your feet healthy or a elderly patient looking for an orthotic to help you balance and walk better, we can help. Will spend the necessary time to help ask and answer all the right questions.

2) Gait Analysis

During our gait analysis portion of our examination, we’ll discern how your feet are functioning with the rest of your body. We’ll take a video and show you how your foot should work and where it may be deficient.

3) Images Of Your Feet

Based upon static images, we can discern your arch height and any other abnormalities that we may need to address with your foot orthotic.

4) Biomechanical Assessment

Since all of our foot orthotic specialists are Doctors Of Physical Therapy, we’ll look at how the important joints of your foot and lower extremity are functioning. For instance, we’ll look the strength, range of motion, and flexibility and how this contributes towards your goals and function.

5) Casting Of Your Foot

Last but not least, if you’re going to be getting a custom pair of foot orthotics, we’ll “cast” your foot in a plaster cast. This is the best way to truly provide you a custom foot orthotic.

Every cast is examined by our highly qualified foot orthotic experts & Doctors of Physical Therapy. They personally evaluate all casts, pictures, videos, and patient reports that are provided and consult with the physical therapist, to be sure that the perfect orthotic design is created. Stride Orthotics also classifies each patients foot, left and right separately, since not all two feet are the same by utilizing  their  own patented foot classification method that identifies 24 congenital foot types.Owner (Roberta) is a Certified Pedorthist, has her masters in sports medicine, and is also a PT.

Why Our Custom Foot Orthotics Process Is Different

If you’re wondering why our orthotics and process is different from picking up a pair at your local shoe store or podiatrsits’s office then you’re in the right place.

Our custom foot orthotics process is different because all of our Doctors Of Physical Therapy on staff know and understand the function of your foot. For instance, they know how the joints move and how the muscles work. This means we understand the demands and needs your feet must withstand on a daily basis.

Not only are out therapists trained extensively on the foot, but we can also assess how your foot is affecting the rest of your body. Podiatrists can only look at your feet and don’t understand how it relates to the rest of the body.

In regards to local shoe stores, they usually have a sales person trying to discern what type of a foot orthotic you need. They don’t have any formal training on foot orthotics or on feet.

Our Foot Orthotics Guarantee…

We believe so stronly in our foot orthotics and process that we offer a 90 day patient satisfaction guarantee. This means, if they don’t work for you or are causing you more pain, we’ll refund your money. No questions asked.
